Day 1 – Planning and Sketches


Love, Death and Robots was announced as the theme of the GoedWare GameJam 5. I had seen a couple of episodes but since this is my first gamejam and I don't know what an array is, I decided to interpret the theme more literally.  What if to beat an enemy you had to choose either for love or death?  What if how convinced the characters are to date you and how much they had health was calculated on the same health bar? Welcome to Less than 3 or X or <3orX

The following is a rough planning of the idea:

The core game loop would be: 

  • Meet unique robot character
  • Have a small conversation: 2 to 3 phrases
  • Decide whether to try and date them or to fight
  • Different endings depending on your choices

Today I also did some sketches of one of the characters to get an idea of what they would look like:

If there is time I will also implement an Emotion system that works as follows: 


the lines represent a follow-up in a conversation, +♥ means that the character likes you more after the choice you made in the segment, while -♥ means they like you less. 



//Fighting the bots starts a minigame but this might change.

//To limit the scope I thought of only including 2 characters with unique personalities and minigames.
